It happens too often, we are regularly approached by new customers who have had a cheapie film transfer go horribly wrong and those customers are sent to us by people who have trusted Avid Tech DVD Transfer Centre and reported a positive experience.

Sad Transfers:

Q. What could possibly go wrong?

A. Plenty, films are fragile and break easily especially when run through a projector or machine with sprockets and problems are rife when films are not cleaned and lubricated or have splices repaired and broken parts of films repaired using tape instead of cement.

Projector jams are not unusual and can shred films easily, with FXF systems there are no sprockets so films are much safer in the scanning process.

Over Exposed - Hot Spots

We see this all the time as others use halogen globes which are simply way to powerful for realtime transfers and the results look awful, way too bright and poor colour.

Film transfers are all the same aren't they?

No, projector based transfers are film chain and are not scanned and this includes so called "Off the frame" which is pure hype. All those methods are re shoots using a separate video camera which could be any old Hi8 or VHS camera and there are some using better cameras and re shooting in 16x9 squashing the image, it is awful.

Frame by frame - are there different types or machines?

Yes there are 3 types 1. Workprinter which uses a separate camera and is based on a mirror and convex lens to suspend the image in mid air and could be classed as ariel. 2 Sniper uses a scanning head directly in front of the film for frame scanning. HD a high cost option that is only available from Avid Tech in Australia.

So, if I order a cheaper frame by frame transfer wouldn't it be as good?

Sorry, the answer has to be a resounding NO. Avid Tech uses a complete system approach called FXF and has none of the problems associated with these machines tied to an office hack or home PC.

You usually get what you pay for, our services are premium but competitive and cheaper than others in real terms and our standard scans start as low as $20.00 AUD per 50'

Avid Tech has been using these machines for years and other providers are asking us how we manage to produce such high contrast and colour reproduction that they can not achieve and the answer is partly operator experience and knowledge and technology implementation.

Avid Tech has the know how and the system approach that includes custom written codecs and enhanced hard ware frame handling, plus we know a thing ot 2 about light usage and the right system hardware. COV is an enhancement no one else has, Clarity of Vision is also unique to Avid Tech.

Our transfers are clearer, crisper and have an enormous contrast ratio with dense blacks and shadow detail that is unmatched.

Our machines are not off the shelf but further customised to meet our exacting standards, little wonder Avid Tech has grown to be the largest retail film telecine and VHS to DVD Transfer facility in Victoria and the first choice of Victorians and all Australians for super high quality film FXF telecine transfers to DVD.
